The Environmental and Human Costs of Fast Fashion and What We Can Do About It

Who needs a wardrobe when you have a barbell and a squat rack?

Hosting a Clothing Swap is one way we can reduce the fashion industry’s toll on our environmental and human rights.

Below are few more ideas we came up with at the Clothing Swap. Enjoy and share with others!

Actions we can take to reduce clothing waste:

  1. Shop at Second Stores

    Local Options

    Uptown Consignment (Hamden)

    Renee’s Resale Clothing Outlet (Orange)

    Goodwill (Cheshire)

    Saver’s (Orange)

    Online Options

    Thredup

    Poshmark

    Depop

    Buy Nothing Project

    Patagonia-Worn Wear

  2. Host/Attend Clothing Swaps

  3. Recycle our textiles

  4. Bring blankets and towels to animal shelters.

    Where is the Love?

  5. Buy classic and high-quality clothing that will last.

  6. Get educated. Read the book ”The Travels of A T-Shirt in the Global Economy: An Economist Examines the Markets, Power, and Politics of World Trade” by Pietra Rivoli.

  7. Buy less. Borrow clothes from friends. Rent your clothing.

  8. Shop brands that are sustainable, environmentally friendly, and socially responsible.

    Pact

    Smartwool

    Prana

  9. Make our own clothes. Sew, crochet, knit, weave.

  10. Hem, mend, and repair our clothing to give it more life and delay its trip to the landfill.

Our next Clothing Swap is planned for November, so stay tuned.
