HOLIDAY SEASON + THE COMPARISON TRAP- How to avoid it!
The holidays can be a magical time of year—but let’s be real, it’s also prime time for the comparison trap.
Maybe you’ve caught yourself scrolling through Instagram, seeing picture-perfect holiday tables, or reading posts about someone’s new fitness PR and thinking: Why don’t I have that? Why can’t I do that?
Here’s the thing: social comparison isn’t just unhelpful—
it can be downright destructive.
Instead of motivating us, it often leaves us feeling inadequate, overwhelmed, or stuck.
But what if you flipped the script?
What if, instead of getting stuck in envy, you used those comparisons to reflect on your own goals, values, and dreams?
We can actually turn comparison into clarity—and then into action.
Three Stories of Women Who Broke Free from the Comparison Trap
1. Lisa: Overcoming the 'Perfect Mom' Comparison
Lisa, 45, found herself comparing her holiday season to other moms in her circle.
She felt guilty that her decorations weren’t Instagram-worthy, and her Christmas cookies weren’t shaped like reindeer.
Lisa’s health was taking a back seat because she was trying to do it all.
When she joined our program, Lisa realized that what she really wanted was to feel calmer and healthier during the holidays—so she could actually enjoy them with her kids.
She started small: saying no to overcommitting, making time for quick workouts, and meal-prepping simple, nourishing food.
By the next holiday season, Lisa felt strong, confident, and in control—and her family was happier too.
2. Monica: Overcoming the 'Body Goals' Trap
Monica, 52, couldn’t scroll through social media without comparing herself to younger women with six-pack abs.
She felt ashamed of her body and unmotivated to start.
Every January, she’d make resolutions, but by February, she was back where she started.
This time, Monica said yes to coaching.
We focused on sustainable, consistent actions, helping her build strength and a balanced relationship with food.
She traded all-or-nothing thinking for progress she could stick with.
By the following December, Monica didn’t just look different—she felt different.
She was consistently going to the gym, had more energy, and stopped avoiding family photos.
3. Sarah: Overcoming the 'Successful Friend' Comparison
Sarah, 47, felt stuck.
Her best friend had started running marathons, and another had a thriving career.
Meanwhile, Sarah was barely getting through her to-do list.
She wondered if it was even possible to prioritize herself at this stage of life.
When Sarah joined our program, she learned that taking care of herself wasn’t selfish—it was essential.
Together, we created a plan that fit her busy life, with short, effective workouts and habits that supported her mental and physical health.
Fast-forward a year: Sarah feels more energized, focused, and ready to pursue her own goals.
She didn’t need to compete with her friends—she learned to cheer herself on instead.
What to Do Instead of Comparing
Pause and Reflect: Notice when you’re comparing and ask yourself: What does this tell me about my values?
Shift Your Mindset: Instead of feeling envious, let others’ successes inspire you. What could you achieve if you focused on your goals?
Take Action: Build a plan that aligns with your life and values. Start with small, manageable steps.
