Meet our February Athlete of the Month- CHARLEY!

Athlete of the Month: Charley

At Mountain View Wellness, we celebrate one standout client each month—someone who truly embodies the values we hold close.

This month, that person is Charley.

Charley epitomizes three key qualities:

🔹 Open-Mindedness – He’s always up for trying new movements in his training, tackling unfamiliar hiking trails, and he’s even down with some crazy balance drills we throw at him every once in a while! Thanks for being a great sport!

🔹 Consistency – Charley shows up. Rain or shine, he commits to his workouts, proving that steady effort leads to big results. He even puts in extra training sessions while his wife attends yoga classes, making the most of every opportunity to stay active.

🔹 Grit – Whether it’s pushing through a challenging workout or setting new goals , Charley gives it his all. He’s proof that dedication and perseverance pay off, both in and out of the gym.

Now, you might be wondering why we’ve chosen a guy for Athlete of the Month?

Yes, we do specialize in coaching women over 40, but we do also have male members as well!

Charley’s journey with us started thanks to his amazing wife, Karen.

She joined first, then one day asked if her husband could tag along.

Fast forward, and Charley hasn’t looked back! Since retiring, he’s stepped up his movement game, showing up consistently to train with us, hitting his accessory work at Ascent, golfing, and—perhaps most impressively—being a Super Grandpa.

Charley is reliable, funny, strong, and an all-around fantastic human. We’re thrilled to celebrate him this month!

In Charley’s Own Words

What inspired you to start your health and fitness journey with MVW?

I have been training with MVW for 3 years. I attended a meditation group at the studio to reduce stress. I then signed on for training sessions to get into better shape.

What is a recent accomplishment or breakthrough you're most proud of in your training?

Don’t know if this is an accomplishment, but I look forward to doing something every day. Whether it be going to the gym, doing yoga, or just walking. It improves my mood and my health. I have also stopped blood pressure medication and cut down on anxiety medication.

What advice would you give to someone who’s just starting their wellness journey or considering joining MVW?

Getting started is the hardest step. Once you get going, you will notice the difference mentally and physically.

What do you love most about being part of the MVW community and training at Ascent New Haven?

The fact that we are all there for the same reason. And people in the group became fast friends.

Is there anything else you would like us to know about your and/or our health + wellness journey?

This program is a perfect fit for me. Workouts are challenging and the times flexible. I meet with Julie twice a week but find myself going to Ascent an additional 2-3 times a week. Even if it just for a half hour.
